Every year it's the same story: thousands of students are lost when it comes to the financial aid they can claim. EdLive has compiled a list of the main grants available to you as a student. All these grants vary according to the student's family and financial situation, as well as his or her field of study.

For Quebec students

The Quebec government offers four main types of financial assistance for studies:

Loans and bursaries for full-time studies

This assistance is intended for students who do not have the financial resources to continue their studies. To calculate the amount potentially available, the government takes into account expenses considered cnd the potential contribution of parents and/or spouse. You can do a simulation right here, to see how much you could be entitled to.

Loans for part-time studies

This loan, which is similar to the above-mentioned aid, is aimed at students with between 76 and 179 hours of teaching. You'll need a guarantee certificate, which you can pick up at your school, before the financial aid is paid into your account.

Explore program

This program is designed for students who wish to take part in an intensive language immersion program. The aim is to improve your knowledge of English or French, Canada's two official languages. Thanks to Explore, you can spend five weeks in the spring or summer at an accredited educational institution in Canada or Quebec. Funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage, this program provides financial assistance to over 3,000 students every year.

Deferred payment or pre-authorized debit

This assistance is divided into two categories: repayment of student debt by pre-authorized debit and deferred repayment

In the first case, you are a student in financial recovery. In this situation, the government buys your debt from your financial institution. It then becomes your creditor. From now on, it will be up to the government and the person in charge of your file to negotiate new, lower interest rates and repayment of your debt.

In the second case, you are a student who is having difficulty repaying his or her student debt but is not yet in financial recovery. Depending on your situation, the government will pay part of the interest to your financial institution. This assistance is for a renewable period of six months.
